History
Mixon Fruit Farms has an amazing history, making it wonderful to visit. Mixon Fruit Farms is an East County, Florida, orange grove. Although it originally was known for oranges, it now has so much more than that. It was opened in 1939 by Willie and Rosa Mixon. They purchased 20 acres within Manatee County and originally had a vision for it to be a retail store.
Willie made his money from Manatee Hammock Fruit Co. and then quit in 1941 and decided to work for the farm full time. His son Bill worked within the family, too, and together used all the money they earned to purchase more material to build a home for themselves. He married his wife (who was his childhood sweetheart!) in July 1949.
By the 1970’s, the grove had grown to 350 acres. The Mixons built the plant on the farm, as well as a new retail store which sold ice cream and fudge, in the 1980s. By 1992, Mixon’s sold 250,000 packages of oranges in gift boxes and mailed over 30,000 each year! This was the farm’s highest ever level of revenue.

This is a very pale, yellow, flavorful, and very seedy fruit. It is a mixture between grapefruit and many other different types of fruits. Unfortunately, many people do not like how many seeds are in the fruit. With that said, white seedless grapefruit are also available from mid-December through mid-January locally.
But eating fruit isn’t all you can expect at Mixon Fruit Farms! You can also have full meals for the entire family. From breakfast to snacks to entire meals and desserts, Mixon Fruit Farms has it all!
